In our opinion Spotify have not always made the best design decisions. They reworked their logo a couple of years ago, and to my eyes it still looks unbalanced. Their choice of a new brand green last year didn't go down too well with designers or many of their users. They claimed they chose the colour because it was unique, and not being used by any other major brand. Well, there might be a reason for that! It's not a very nice green.
It's a little cheeky and for us, this suits Spotify and their brand
Anyway, they stuck with their brand green, and they stuck with the slight imperfections in their logo - and to be honest, I've kinda used to them. But, what's this! They've now gone and changed their brand typeface. Initially, it's just their logo and some of their apps, but I guess they'll roll it out across the board eventually.
Their new choice of typeface is a called LL Circular, and is made Line To.

It's nice, really nice. Their old body typeface was from the Gotham family - well respected and well designed, but Gotham can sometimes look a little sensible. Circular on the other hand has a certain sense of fun and daring about it. It's a little cheeky and for us, this suits Spotify and their brand.
There's something else that's cool about circular; it doesn't lose it's character when used in body type. It keeps it's integrity at whatever size it's used.
We're yet to use LL Circular as a starting point for any of our logo designs, but it's a useful little typeface and we're certain to call on it for some project soon.
